TThe Shekere is a traditional West African percussion instrument made from a large dried gourd covered with a handwoven net of beads. Its sound is created through a combination of shaking, which causes the beads to strike the gourd’s surface, tapping the body of the gourd with the palm, or sliding the bead net to produce rhythmic textures. The Shekere is widely used in modern, Latin, and jazz music, and is also a popular instrument in music education and movement-based activities.
