Q&A

1. What is Zentangle, and where does it originate?

Zentangle is a creative method that combines art and mindfulness, originating in the United States in the 20th century.

The basic concept of Zentangle is to create artwork by drawing simple lines and patterns repeatedly. These patterns are usually abstract and unplanned, allowing for free and spontaneous combinations. The process encourages a meditative state, helping participants relax and experience the calming effects of drawing.

2. Is Zentangle related to any religion?

Zentangle has an indirect connection to religion, as some of its principles are influenced by certain religious concepts, such as the idea of simplicity and mindfulness often found in religions like Zen Buddhism.

However, Zentangle is not tied to any specific religion, and it is a form of art that anyone can practice. Regardless of religious background, many participants see it as a therapeutic art form rather than a religious practice.

3. What will I learn in a Zentangle class?

The class covers the basic tools needed for Zentangle (such as black pens, colored pencils, and drawing paper) and teaches participants the essential techniques and concepts of Zentangle. You'll explore different patterns, shapes, and lines and learn how to combine these elements to design personalized artwork.

4. Is Zentangle difficult?

Zentangle mainly involves repetitive lines and shapes, making it simple and approachable. The basic techniques and concepts are easy to learn, and once you’ve mastered a few basic shapes, you can begin to express yourself freely.

Additionally, in Zentangle, the process is more important than the final result. This art form encourages participants to focus on the joy of creating, without worrying about perfection. There is no pressure to achieve a certain level of completion.

5. Can Zentangle classes be held at schools or organizations?

Yes, we offer flexible on-site services for schools and organizations. Whether it's for individuals, schools, or corporate groups, our instructors can travel to your designated location. Please note that additional charges may apply for distant locations, such as Aberdeen and the Outlying Islands. Feel free to contact us for details.
